Oh, how I hate reading a book
After watching the movie! Or in my very case after watching the first four shows of the series. I had reserved How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls by Zoe yDean and waited for months for it to show up! I spoke to the librarian last week (we are tight by this time) and she got me some sort of rush on it because within in a few days it was magically waiting for me. I had been watching the series based on the novel called Privileged on the CW. (I have a mild obsession with cheesy CW shows.) The show has me hooked and I knew I had to read the book.
When it came I immediately caressed it’s pages and settled in for what I’d guessed was a good read. WRONG. Because I watched the show first (which breaks my cardinal rule of reading) it’s BROKEN me. All I can see is all the differences it’s horribly irritating.
The things that bother me:
- Megan is a size 8/10 in the book – on the show there is no way that Joanna Garcia who plays Megan on Privileged is any more than a size 3, if that.
- Megan in the book is supposed to be less pretty than her sister.
- Megan’s sister Lily is a famous actress in the book and stunning. In the tv show she plays this like dirty haired but screwing a rich guy version of LA White Trash (it’s the only way I can think to explain it all).
- Something about it just feels wrong. Like I can’t stop comparing it to the damn show.
Ugh, I’m broken and I promise to the almighty book gods to never again watch the made for television or movie version of a book before reading it.
Nice Site layout for your blog. I am looking forward to reading more from you.

Oh that’s really disappointing because I really want to read it – I want to know how it ends!!! But then maybe the tv show and book will end in completely different ways?? I don’t know but I’m apparently in love with punctuation today!!
I need to read that book, The Tale of Desperaux before the movie comes out and I cave in and see it, which you know I will…
I’m going to force myself to continue reading it even though it’s irritating the crap out of me in the first two chapters. I will let you know if there is any improvement.
i wrote a review on this book. I haven’t seen the show (no cable) or the supposed movie that’s coming out based on it…but the book wicked pissed me off. You could see everything coming from a mile away. I feel like it’s something I would have written in high school.
anyways, Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist was a much better book than movie. The movie pretty much butchered it. I could read the book over and over again because I’ve had wayyyy too many of those crazy-stay-out-all-night-looking-for-adventure nights.
